PDS helps to shape the future of modern criminal justice
The Police Digital Service (PDS) joined leaders joined leaders from across policing, justice and industry to explore how technology, collaboration and innovation can drive meaningful change across the sector.
Discussions at the Modernising Criminal Justice Conference in London, focused on how the system can move from strategy into delivery – creating more connected, efficient and citizen-focused services across policing and the wider criminal justice system.
Topics included the use of artificial intelligence, automation, improved data sharing, digital case management and strengthening cyber security.
PDS continues to align its work to the Police Digital Strategy, centred on five key ambitions:
- Seamless citizen experience
- Addressing harm
- Enabling officers and staff
- Embedding a whole public system approach
- Empowering the private sector
Through national programmes such as the Digital Case File Programme and ARIT, PDS is already supporting forces and partners to work more effectively, consistently and collaboratively.
Edward Preece, Chief Operating Officer at the Police Digital Service, said:
“The communities we serve entrust policing and our justice system partners with the most sensitive information about their lives, with an expectation that we will keep it secure while using it to pursue justice on their behalf. It is vital that we build on that trust, working together to maintain the security of this information and deliver outcomes that matter to the public.
“We are looking at opportunities to increase cross-sector engagement, which will be key to unlocking the full potential of digital, data and technology. We encourage our criminal justice partners to join us later this year at the NPCC Innovation and Digital Summit, where we will continue these important discussions and drive further progress.”
A key theme from the conference was that digital transformation cannot happen in isolation. Strong leadership, shared standards, better information sharing and sustained investment in digital capability across the entire criminal justice system will be essential to delivering improved outcomes for the public.
The Police Digital Service looks forward to continuing to work closely with partners across policing, government and industry to modernise justice services and deliver digital solutions that help keep communities safe.
