Celebrating three years of TecSAFE at PDS
Three years ago, on 1 April 2023, TecSAFE officially transitioned into the Police Digital Service (PDS). Since then, TecSAFE has operated 24/7, 365 days a year, directly supporting vulnerable people facing domestic abuse, stalking, harassment, honour‑based abuse and other high‑harm situations.
Built around lived experience, frontline insight and rigorous technical assurance, TecSAFE gives victims a discreet, direct route to police support and provides forces with real‑time intelligence to inform rapid and effective response. Today, the service is endorsed by the Home Office and supported by the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Taskforce and Operation Soteria.
A Year of growth
During the financial year 2025–26, TecSAFE continued to scale across the UK, enhancing the consistency of safeguarding and strengthening policing’s emergency response.
Over the past 12 months:
- 2,789 devices were issued to vulnerable individuals.
- We witnessed 4,431 activations, enabling urgent intervention.
- We expanded to 40 live forces.
- We delivered 431 training sessions to safeguarding leads, control rooms and frontline units across 40 forces.
- We progressed practice toward inclusion in the College of Policing’s practice bank.
Across its lifetime, TecSAFE has supported more than 34,000 individuals, with over 22,000 activations from victims seeking immediate help in the last seven years. The service is available in multiple languages, ensuring officers can reach vulnerable people across diverse communities with consistent support nationwide.
These are not just numbers. They represent thousands of moments where someone felt unsafe, reached for help and received a timely, informed and coordinated police response. Testimonials continue to reinforce the difference TecSAFE makes, helping victims regain mobility, confidence and a sense of control.
A service evolving for the future
TecSAFE’s next financial year (2026-27) focuses on strengthening resilience, widening use cases and embedding the service more deeply into policing’s national safeguarding framework.
This year, we will:
- Continuing to expand nationally across all UK police forces, ensuring a consistent national emergency response.
- Enhance TecSAFE’s covert technology, enabling broader application without compromising victim safety.
- Introducing system enhancements to simplify access, increase resilience and security, and improve user experience.
- Embed TecSAFE into the National Centre for VAWG and Public Protection (NCVPP) to align with national intelligence and operational processes.
- Increase awareness and training, supporting officers and safeguarding teams to identify when TecSAFE can be used proactively.
- Broadening the use of TecSAFE to include any scenario where an individual faces serious personal risk.
These priorities will ensure TecSAFE continues to evolve, strengthening police response and improving protection for the most vulnerable people across the UK.
