Scrutiny of the powers and responsibilities that police have to carry out our duties is critical to maintain the trust of communities. The use of Taser is a specific issue which is rightly highly scrutinised both internally and externally.
This new PowerApp has been designed to record details of when a Taser discharged during incidents with the aim to help the force to assess key and understand the characteristics and details of the incident. Helping to collect and review why the highly training officer made the challenging decision to the discharge the Taser. It records not only the details of the officers involved but also plots the locations of discharges on maps, which provides better information and insight for supervisors, training teams and leadership teams.
The application allows for supervisor oversite before being forwarded to Taser trainers to review and assess each discharge. The Taser trainer have the option to provide feedback, note best practice or areas for development. They can also refer the discharge to the force professional standards department.
