Cyber Security Awareness Month
October has arrived, and with it Cyber Security Awareness Month. It was started in the United States as a joint initiative between the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance in 2004. Since then, it has become a global event with governments and cyber-focused organisations promoting cyber security awareness.
This year’s campaign theme — “See Yourself in Cyber” — demonstrates that while cybersecurity may seem like a complex subject, ultimately, it’s really all about people. This year they’re encouraging people to “See Yourself as part of the solution”.
That means putting operational collaboration into practice, working together to share information in real-time, and reducing risk and building resilience from the start to protect the public.
PDS’s National Management Centre (NMC) provides an active cybersecurity monitoring service across policing, 24/7, as well as a number of other services. Our cyber specialists provide guidance and support that is tailored to the specific needs of individual police forces and our Force Liaison Officers engage regularly with forces, providing direct access to the NMC and the assistance they need to ensure their information systems remain as secure as possible.
The NMC supports forces by understanding and assessing the cyber threat landscape, enabling them to protect themselves and our communities from online threats.
The world of cyber security is constantly growing and evolving and as such, so is the threat to UK Policing. We are dedicated to protecting police forces across the UK against cybercrime.
