NPCE project completes with full operating capability for UK policing
The National Police Capabilities Environment (NPCE) has reached full operating capability, with the programme formally closing following successful delivery and assurance in April 2026.
Developed by the Police Digital Service (PDS), the NPCE is now transitioning into business as usual, overseen by a dedicated product manager. This ensures continuity, ongoing enhancements and a clear onboarding roadmap for new policing applications.
Over the past three years, the NPCE has delivered several major milestones, including the onboarding of a range of analytical tools for Policing in 2025. Achieving assured full operating capability marks a significant step forward in the modernisation of national policing technology.
Steve Woodard, Director of Managed Services at PDS, said:
“Reaching full operating capability and closing the NPCE project is a significant achievement for policing. We have delivered a secure, national platform that removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for forces to access and share digital tools. Transitioning into business as usual means the NPCE can now focus on continuous improvement and supporting the next generation of national policing applications.”
Built on Microsoft Azure, the NPCE provides a secure, scalable national cloud platform that enables the hosting and lifecycle management of live policing applications. It supports faster development, testing and deployment of digital tools, improving resilience, access and value for money across UK police forces.
The NPCE will continue to play a central role in supporting the National Policing Digital Strategy, providing a consistent national IT architecture and a trusted platform to scale successful local solutions into national capabilities.
